Feel More Confident After a Complete Dental Exam

Our friendly team works together to give you a confident smile and comfortable care while you’re getting your exam and cleaning. You’ll see a hygienist for a preliminary exam that includes a check for periodontal (gum) disease. We’ll take low-radiation digital X-rays, if needed. Your hygienist will also gently but thoroughly clean your teeth to remove plaque and tartar, which cause tooth decay and gum disease.

Dr. Patten will then thoroughly examine your smile, focusing on any areas of concern flagged by your hygienist. He’ll address any questions you have, and he’ll be happy to discuss possible smile improvements, including:

We provide comforts like blankets, pillows, and sedation if needed. We can even offer you a stress ball to squeeze. You’ll stay comfortable during your dental exams thanks to our use of patient-friendly technology, like:

  • Digital X-rays – Faster than traditional X-rays, these also mean you won’t have the discomfort of bulky film in your mouth. Plus, they use far less radiation than older X-rays.
  • Intraoral Cameras – These handheld cameras require less poking around when looking inside your mouth.

Common Questions About Dental Cleanings and Exams

How long does a dental exam and cleaning take?

The time needed for these services will vary depending on several factors, including whether we’ve seen you before and what shape your smile is in. Typically, though, it won’t require more than an hour. It will be time well spent, as your teeth will look and feel great!

How soon after my cleaning can I eat?

It all depends on the type of treatment you receive during your appointment. If our dental team has applied fluoride treatments to your teeth, you’ll want to wait at least 30 minutes before you eat. Otherwise, there’s no reason to wait at all! However, many people prefer to wait awhile since their teeth and gums may feel a bit sensitive after their cleaning.

How often should I get a dental cleaning and exam?

To keep your teeth free of disease and decay, we recommend visiting our office every six months for an exam and cleaning. We understand you may hesitate to do so if you are paying for these services out of pocket. You can join our LakeCrest Dental Wellness Plan. You’ll get 50 percent off exams, routine cleanings, and X-rays as well as other services with our annual membership fee.
