It’s that time of year again when you eat like royalty until you’re in a slightly uncomfortable food coma so you can plop down on the couch and go through Black Friday ads and cut out coupons.

But don’t forget that Black Friday is also National Flossing Day, and it’s a great reminder to practice good oral hygiene habits so you can have a healthy holiday smile.

You also have the support of our team at LakeCrest Dental for exceptional preventive care for optimum oral health.

Flossing Keeps A Mouth Healthy!

Brushing twice a day is something most people do.

Flossing is an entirely different story!

According to the American Dental Association, about half of adults in this country say they don’t floss every single day, and a staggering 20% say they never do it at all!

The only reason we find this rather shocking is because of how important flossing is in your daily oral care routine to your overall dental health. Floss gets between teeth and in those hard-to-reach places in your mouth your toothbrush misses.

Leaving those areas unchecked is in part what allows dental plaque to harden into tartar, and at that point, you can’t remove it without help from a trained hygienist.

And without visiting a hygienist and dentist at least every six months, it’s easy to imagine how quickly and easily that hard plaque can lead to gum disease. If left untreated, gum disease can take hold in your mouth, increase your risk for tooth loss, and threaten your overall health, as well.

It’s Easier To Floss With The Right Tools

One of the reasons people probably don’t floss as often as they should is because it’s uncomfortable or too time-consuming.

If your teeth or gums are too sensitive for standard dental floss, you can try waxed floss to see if it makes it easier to get between your teeth or consider investing in a good water pik. This is highly effective at cleaning around and under the gumline in a comfortable, easy way without floss.

As far as time, ask one of our skilled hygienists about the proper flossing technique at your next appointment. You’ll find that once you do it the right way, and do it consistently, flossing takes no time at all!

We’re Here To Help!

As essential as flossing and brushing your teeth are, they aren’t the habits your smile needs to stay healthy.

You need to visit your Sand Springs dentist routinely for cleanings and exams. It’s our chance to remove any plaque buildup that your brushing and flossing can’t.

So when your Black Friday shopping is done, be sure to pick up some dental floss, and dedicate yourself to this invaluable daily practice.
